On the 27th July, 2019 - Pray4Zion and precious partners celebrated 12 years of loyal serving, praying and supporting the many needs of God’s chosen people in Israel. As we look back over the 12 years, we can clearly see the Hand of God and His amazing provision. There were times when we thought how are we going to achieve our goal or even keep our promises? Alone we couldn’t do it …but together with your generosity - yes! And, amazingly each month God would provide through your faithfulness, love and financial support for Israel …and it would come through at the right time when it was so very needed.

Did you know that God had joined us (Alf and Julie) with Mike Lander 21 years ago and have worked together ever since 1998? We are like a “three-cord” unbroken for the work of the “Kingdom” – at first in the heart of the Islamic nation of Turkey where God had placed us for 7 years to prepare us for His plan for “a time such as this” in Israel. Twelve years have passed since we first arrived in Israel and truly we have seen God’s blessing not only for the Jewish people that we love and support unconditionally each month …but also the Hand of God’s blessing over partners who choose to believe God promise of Genesis 12:3; “I will bless those who bless you (Israel)!” Only just twelve years ago it was a radical idea …but today the relationship between Jews and Christians is NOT only possible - but a blessing to us all. So, we encourage you to continue to work in the “spirit of togetherness,” united in service to our God for Israel meeting the many needs. Perhaps more today than at any time in modern history are we witnessing Bible Prophecy happening before our eyes with the attempted destruction of Israel and the dividing of Jerusalem by the nations. Jerusalem is truly the epicentre!

Your prayers and generous gifts are so important and you truly provide the “breath” of hope and freedom for the suffering Jewish people. With God’s blessing, and through your loving support, we will strive to continue to provide even more than the past twelve years so that many Jewish lives will be saved. We believe that reaching “twelve” years is a milestone and would like to share this with you. It is because of the faithfulness of our partners that we can continue welcoming the Jewish people with the love of Yeshua (Jesus) by working alongside the Messianic Church in Northern Israel and many times they are amazed that people so far away from Israel care about them and sometimes so surprised to see such love from South Africa because of all the negative Media reports.

 What could be better than to see the words of Isaiah 11 being fulfilled before their very eyes? You see that through your kindness and support …in fact you together with Pray4Zion are fulfilling prophecy! “In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his resting place will be glorious. In that day the Lord will reach out his hand a second time ….” – Isaiah 11:10-12. Isaiah predicted a re-gathering of the Jewish people (just as Moses did in his blessings and curses in Genesis 12:3) …but Isaiah wrote that this would be for the “second time.” There have been two different re-gatherings of Jews from the nations back to Israel, both after he lived.  From Isaiah’s time (750 BC) we might think that he was writing about the re-gathering of Jews to Israel from the Babylonian captivity but because he specifically wrote of the “second time” we know he is looking beyond that re-gathering. The “second” (and only other) re-gathering is the one that is happening right now, as part of the re-birth of modern Israel.  Isaiah’s description of the re-gathering from the “four quarters of the earth” (i.e. from North, South, East, West) precisely describes what is occurring today as Jews from every continent on the globe are now doing Aliyah (returning through immigration) to their land – Israel, in a precise and literal fulfilment of what Isaiah wrote 2700 years ago.

We read in Matthew 24 where Yeshua (Jesus) talks about His Second Coming and then speaks about the conditions of the End-Times (deception, wars, uprisings, days of rage, famines, pestilences and earthquakes) …and warns us to have endurance as He will come “quickly.” The Lord tells us “…to watch the “fig tree” (Israel) and when you shall see ALL these things…!” Yeshua (Jesus) repeats His counsel about watching! Watching and being aware of? Watching our lives, having them in order, watching in prayer and we believe watching the “fig tree” – Israel blossom …so that we will know the season of His Coming and to be prepared! Some people would say; “If we watch Israel, we might take our eyes off the Lord?” No! Watching Israel WILL prepare us further for the Coming of the Lord, our Saviour - who is also the Saviour of the Jews. Yeshua in Hebrew means “Salvation.” “Comfort My people! Comfort them!” says your God. “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem and announce to it that its time of hard labour is over and its wrongs have been paid for!” – Isaiah 40:1-2.

By loving and supporting the Needy Jewish Families that God has and is still returning to the land through His promise thousands of years ago today making “Aliyah” many come to Israel with very little and so we are touching God’s heart and helping to fulfil His Commandments and End-Time plan. To all of our faithful partners who have supported Pray4Zion through the years, may this testimony be personal for you too! You have made a difference in the lives of thousands of people, and for some of them a first memory of Israel is that they are not alone and truly will always be a divine opportunity to remove the wall of separation between Jew and Gentile. The needs are diverse and so we know that our God is looking for people to channel His blessings through and you have responded!

Since Israel is a time clock we need to observe and know the "times of the season" that we are in, through seeing the fulfilment of many Prophecies such as; Israel now back in her Land (1948); Jerusalem back in Jewish Hands (1967) and the Jews returning to Israel from across the globe - we are going to sense the Lord’s soon Coming and order our lives accordingly. The people in Noah’s day were not interested in what Noah was saying and they were NOT ready and they missed the boat! The days are approaching when Jerusalem will become "a burdensome stone" and a regional war is coming to the Middle East as surely as the Word of God warns us – it will come! The problems that Israel faces by being surrounded by enemies who are plotting her destruction will NOT go away. Conditions are ripe for war and the controversy is everywhere! We, as the Church, must be found standing on the right side and support God’s Land and people and at the same time be ready for His appearing. Our spiritual clocks are telling us that the arrival of our Beloved Lord is not far off. We MUST continue to study Bible Prophecy and keep ourselves up-to-date on what is happening in the Jewish Nation and be identified with His Chosen People and our "Hebraic Roots." We must acknowledge that the Chosen People and their restoration as a nation to their historical homeland, is to believe Israel has a purpose in God’s plan for the End Times as His Coming may be near – nearer than what we think!

Our Newsletters and Teachings over the past 12 years in Israel are ALL Biblical, Prophetic and based upon Scripture and a very important part of the ministry God has called Pray4Zion to… Each month we write what we believe the Lord wants us to speak on. One of the subjects we believe are burdened to share about is Prophecy and where we are on God’s Prophetic Time-Line. Another important subject is about "Replacement Theology" which is the belief that the Church had replaced Israel which is factually incorrect and un-Biblical. We also believe that it brings awareness and prepares God’s people - the true Church to work with our Messianic brothers and sisters in Yeshua …and to re-connect with our Hebraic Roots (Hebrews 9-11) which are connected Biblically and Prophetically to Israel. Israel needs the Church just as the Church needs Israel – we are connected by roots!

God had burdened our hearts to educate and speak up for Israel in love and bring awareness to the Body of Christ that they have their part to play in the Salvation of the Lord’s brethren, the Jews - especially in these days where truth is no longer being taught! At Pray4Zion we take financial accountability and good stewardship of donations very seriously! The sacred call of Isaiah 58:7 to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, and not to divert our eyes from the suffering remains before us as we join hands to care for those in dire need in Israel. For years we have heard Matthew 25:31–46 being preached, and, in fact we ourselves before seeing fully have quoted this passage without understanding to whom Yeshua (Jesus) was actually referring to as His “brethren.” Having lived and worked in the very East of Turkey for 7 years and close to Mount Ararat, we were accustomed to shepherds herding their flocks even across the streets. One distinct difference between the goats and the sheep is that; goats wander off and like to do their own thing whereas the sheep even though they need more care follow their shepherd!

To understand more, we need to go back to Genesis…  There were NO nations until after the flood. After the flood the human race was split up into nations …and God called off one stream of the human race in Abraham …and created a nation out of that one man (Genesis 12). The Old Testament is NOT a history of the nations of the world …but the history of that one nation - Israel. In secular history Israel is disregarded as being merely a miserable horde of slaves, from the standpoint of the historian.  The nations to which the Bible pays little attention are much finer read about, but they have no importance in the “redemptive” purpose of God. His purpose was the creation of a nation to be His bond slave, that through that nation, called Israel, ALL other nations should come to know Him. The Idea that Israel was a magnificently developed “type of nation” is a mistaken one. Israel was despised, and a despisable nation continually turning away from God into idolatry …but nothing ever altered the purpose of God for that nation. The despised element is always a noticeable element in the purpose of God.

When the Saviour of the world came, Yeshua (Jesus) came of that despised nation; He Himself was “despised and rejected by men,” and there is that despised element, “things that are despised God has chosen.” Now do we really know who “… the least of my Brethren” is in Matthew 25: 31 -46 …and who Yeshua (Jesus) was addressing? The first believers were all Jewish! The Shofar is blowing to cleanse the true church of anti-Semitism and open the eyes of Jewish people to Yeshua. The “natural olive branches” were flames of fire for the Gospel. When the door was opened for Gentiles to be saved - the “wild olive branches” were also grafted into the olive tree. The two anointings together made up the “one new man” and revival flourished. But sadly, one of the anointings (the Jewish branches) was broken off and the full glory lifted from the Body of Messiah. This was known as the Gentile Age. But God promises when the fullness, or maturity, of the Gentiles takes place, the Jewish branches will be restored to one again form the “one new anointing.” (Romans 11:15, 25-26)

We need to tell you that the KEY VERSE of the whole passage of Matthew 25: 31–46 is almost always taken out of context. We are referring to verse 40 where it says: And the King will answer and say to them; “Assuredly, I say to you, in-as-much as you did it to one of the least of these My Brethren (Brothers), you did it to Me!” First of all, few people realize that this verse specifically relates to End-Times, the immediate period before the return of the Lord. And as a result, well-meaning people have used this one verse to refer to any act of mercy towards the needy which is a good thing but we must always remember the Lord’s Brethren! God has made an Eternal Covenant with the Jewish people. So inseparably tied is the Lord to His covenant people that the way we treat them is a direct reflection of the way we treat Him. Too put it in our terms today; “I (God) take it personally how you treat My family. Be nice to My brothers otherwise you’re going to have to deal with Me!’

We are proud that Pray4Zion was birthed in South Africa and so we are able to take our gifts of love as a sacrificial offering before God on behalf of the people of our nation who love and support Israel. We thank our American partners who love and support Israel through Pray4Zion your contribution makes it possible too. After, 12 Years of obedience; sacrifice and sheer determination we now see the fruit of Pray4Zion in Israel. Today God is stirring the Christians across the world that is now showing respect and love to the Jewish people and Israel, which is what the New Testament told us to do from the beginning! Often, we have thought about how by being Silent can actually make a statement that we don’t care! Silence does speak and we refuse to be silent on Israel. The time has come for us to demonstrate that we as Christians WILL BE SILENT NO MORE! You ask how can you help? Statistics of poverty in a report based on data gathered by the Central Bureau of Statistics for 2017 in Israel is as follows: A total of 1,780,500 Israeli’s - including 466,400 families and 814,800 children, some 21.2% of the Population are now living below the poverty line, according to the Annual Report of National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) released 31st December 2018. The report is based on data gathered by the Central Bureau of Statistics for 2017, the most recent year for which comprehensive information is available. The overall poverty rate of families living in poverty is 28.7%. The overall proportion of children living in poverty is 29.6%. and among the elderly, the poverty rate is 21.8%. Jerusalem Post.

Pray4Zion is committed to supporting the Holocaust Survivors… Today, thousands of elderly Jews who miraculously escaped death during the Holocaust are living out their final years in poverty and isolation. Many live solely on meagre pensions having to make the impossible choice every day between buying food and other essentials like lifesaving medicines, shelter, and heat in the winter months. Thanks to generous compassionate partners like you these vulnerable Holocaust Survivors throughout Israel receive basic necessities needed for survival. An alarmingly high number of elderly Jews are living below the poverty line in Israel. We may ask why? Understanding that the situation is compounded in the Holy Land as Israel is forced to spend more on security needed to protect her borders, therefore sadly leaving less to help her most vulnerable citizens. The result is that many are suffering from a lack of life’s basic provisions, and are turning to friends of Israel like you for assistance. As King David prayed in his old age; “Do not cast me away when I am old; do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” - Psalm 71:9. We take these words of the Bible to heart ensuring that the frail Holocaust Survivors who are in dire need will get help. Please join us in this urgent work before it is too late!

Pray4Zion supports the Soldiers – IDF… Did you know that Israel is a tiny country only the size of the Kruger National Park in South Africa or the size of New Jersey in America but surrounded by Islamic enemies who regularly call for her destruction and that her National Defence Force is a very serious matter? And, because of the constant need to remain on guard against attacks from her neighbours is so critical, military service is mandatory for all Israeli’s straight from completing School or other Jewish people coming from other countries to serve? A good percentage of those serving are lone soldiers, young men and women who have NO family in Israel. They bravely step up to protect their adopted country without the support of a loving family. Other soldiers find challenges when they complete their military service, as they don’t have the finances to pay for training or education to secure a good job. This presents particular difficulties for the poor and immigrant soldiers.

In 1987 the first Palestinian uprising (intifada) broke out and ushered in a new wave of terrorism in Judea and Samaria (West Bank). At that time the Palestinians organized a conflict that targeted ALL Israeli’s, including civilians in cars, buses and suicide bombings that killed over 160 Israeli’s. In addition to that throughout the territories the Palestinians held boycotts, general strikes and refused to pay taxes. As a result of the first intifada the IDF had to form a Special forces unit known today as Duvdevan which is considered to be one of the best units “mista'arvim” elite Counter Terrorism units in Israel. Their specialty involves infiltration, arrests and capturing wanted terrorists. Other Commando and Counter Terrorism units in the IDF are known as “Katzefit” or “cream” for “the best” in English. In Duvdevan’s 25-year history it has stood above and beyond the traditional Special Forces units and was thus nicknamed “cherry” (“Duvdevan” means “Cherry” in Hebrew) on top of the cream!

The IDF Duvdevan was not originally designed for long term undercover infiltration like other counter-terrorism groups, but rather for quick surprise, hit and run raids against Palestinian militants in inner-city areas within the PLO Palestinian controlled West Bank. Every soldier requires intensive basic combat training, CT (Counter Terrorism) course advanced inner-unit CT training, guerrilla warfare training, undercover training, learning Arabic traditions, language and thinking like an Arab. Over the years the success of Duvdevan has been amazing! Thus far the unit has conducted thousands of operations and killed/captured hundreds of terrorists. Please bear in mind that the terrorists themselves that were killed were fanatics, deeply involved in Radical Islam and preferred to fight until their death so they could become a Martyr rather than to surrender themselves to the Israeli forces. The Duvdevan motto is; “Because by clever deception you wage war…”

This amazing unit does come with a price and many of the soldiers from Duvdevan and other Special forces units finish their three-year mandatory service with psychological and physical damage. Broken ribs, smashed noses, concussions and other injuries have become almost routine in the units’ contact combat training. If we hear of or read about for example; “Two wanted terrorists were arrested overnight,” chances are it was a successful operation by the Duvdevan! Pray4Zion supports Needy Soldiers with “Care packages” and families of soldiers in dire need… and in the winter provide towards “Fleece Jackets” for the Soldiers. We are heading towards the winter when colder months begin approaching, normally soon after “Sukkot” - “The Feast of Tabernacles.” With your help we won’t forget the Israeli soldiers this coming winter! Your donation helps with purchases of Care packages, Fleece Jackets, hats, gloves and thermal clothing and is greatly appreciated! Thank you for showing your love through prayers and support to Israeli soldiers …they truly are a blessing not only to Israel - but the Western World too! God commands us to; “Pray for the peace (shalom) of Jerusalem; may they prosper who love you.”– Psalm 122:6-9.  

Pray4Zion supports Children suffering from trauma… according to statistics presented by the Sderot Mental Health Centre, over 90 % of Sderot residents (one of the towns closest to Gaza Border) have experienced a Kassam rocket explosion from Gaza Palestinian terrorists at some point be it in a neighbourhood, home, school, playground, bus stop, shopping centre, business or other residential area. It is heart-breaking to hear one teenager say that the first words her little brother learned to say were; “tzeva adom” meaning “red alert” - a radar siren system warning of the incoming terrorist missiles from Gaza …giving the people of Sderot only 15 Seconds to run to a nearby bomb shelter!

Sderot is in the South of Israel close to Gaza and many rocket attack victims suffer severe anxiety, depression, sleepless nights, have trouble going back to a regular routine, suffer from symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and have to take anti-depressants. One third of Sderot teenagers aged between 13-18 years have been diagnosed with trauma related learning disorders. Sometimes schools in Southern Israel have been forced to close during periods of intensive rocket attacks accusing a major problem manifesting itself in young children. Psychologists discovered that many of these children are not developing speaking skills at a rate appropriate to their age with the constant rocket attacks creating a state of stress and panic and dramatically impacting their development.

To make matters worse many children suffer Sleeping Disorders and develop symptoms of; PTSD early on; suffer from nightmares; anxiety attacks and many experience regression - going back to wetting their beds! Younger children go back to the bottle, or to the pacifier, and have extreme difficulty separating from their parents. Children are scared to go to the bathroom or get in the shower by themselves, because of the fear of a rocket strike and sirens sounding. The situation has created unhealthy relationships within the family unit; for example, children as old as 12, sleep with their parents because they are afraid. These children were born into the reality of constant rocket fire. The world appears to them as unsafe and scary, full of insecurity and chaos. Their sense of security has been shattered by these continuous terrorist attacks. We want to say a heartfelt thank you for your ongoing financial help and prayers …as enabling Pray4Zion to work alongside the local Kehillah (Congregation) to provide the help they need we are able to encourage them to learn to take refuge in God at their young ages. “We can forgive the Arabs for killing our children. We cannot forgive them for forcing us to kill their children!”  - Golda Meir

Pray4Zion supports Widows, Orphans, Baby/Children Centres in Need… In Israel thousands of Jewish children live in poverty; some have been orphaned, some through war and some are homeless. We are called through Scripture… “to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter – when you see the naked, to clothe them.” - Isaiah 58:7. Over 814,000 children live in poverty and needs are largely left unmet due to Israel having to focus on increase defence spending to protect these same children from terrorism and war. Pray4Zion addresses the critical needs of impoverished children and orphans in Israel by providing food, medicine, and clothes and work hand in hand with the local community. At Children’s Centres milk is provided to babies of needy families and we are blessed to contribute towards this cause too.

Pray4Zion supports local Messianic School Children (Creche and School) and Families in Need… One of the most fulfilling roles God has assigned for Pray4Zion in Israel today is to come alongside the local Congregation/ Assembly (Church) of our Messianic brothers and sisters in Yeshua (Jesus). They take “heat” because of the somewhat adverse stand against them for their faith in Yeshua and get treated differently. The generosity of the partner’s enables us to each month financially support the under-privileged in the local community by providing food, medication and towards dental needs where most needed. Messianic Schools don’t receive benefit from the Government yet and so we continue to help sponsor children at the Crèche or School. Over time have provided for many needs such as; computers, school fees for the children of needy families, old kitchen replaced in the Crèche and playground equipment etc.

God provides through all of us, who are true Bible believing Christians and who believe in God’s plan for Israel and the Jewish people… We have seen their cries for help and assistance in times of need and a wide range of problems are brought to us and when presented - it is our desire to bring a blessing. Just like the four seasons of the year there are “dry” and “rainy” seasons - “spiritually” and “financially” in the land of Israel. There are times during the year when we receive more requests for help from the neediest of believers than others. Some have told us that the help and care we have been able to provide them with came at just the right season of their lives and when they needed it the most. They get blessed and so do we! Their faith gets strengthened with the understanding that Yeshua had heard their cries for help and their walk with God becomes stronger. It is only because of your generous hearts who wish to stand with the of Faith through willing and sacrificial giving that we are able to sow continuously into what God has planted - Once again Thank You! 

Pray4Zion supports Children suffering from Cancer… through our generous partners each month Pray4Zion donates to an organization in Israel assisting the Israeli children suffering from CANCER. Donations contribute towards taking the children on special weekends away from the hospital environment and at times for more specialized treatment! Thank you so much for making this dream possible!

We can only do this through the faithfulness of all our caring partners and are so grateful for everyone as it takes every drop to fill the bucket and you are like "refreshing raindrops" to Israel’s needy children and families. You may not be on the frontline but you are very much a part of this success …and, you make the difference - thank you so much! We most sincerely believe that God WILL bless you for your faithfulness and love for His land and His chosen people.

An exciting new project of Pray4Zion: "Planting a Tree in Israel is the perfect way to honour your loved ones while making Israel greener and improving the economy!" Why plant a tree in Israel? Israel is bombarded with missiles daily and so much damage is done to forests and other areas and the Eco system has been destroyed in areas of Southern Israel by Hamas terrorists. As Israel is also mostly desert trees need to be planted and are vitally important to keep the land from becoming "arid" – too dry or barren to support vegetation. All forests are hand-planted and require continual care! All kind of trees are needed all year round as much of Israel’s fruit: Olives, dates, grapes etc also come from them! In Isaiah 61:1–3; Planting a tree is significant as its roots signify the strength of God and how we are strong like the roots. When the Scripture talks about being "oaks of righteousness" - God is speaking to us about being "righteous in Him" and to be "built up as a mighty "oak." A tree is a symbol of strength, faith, rebirth, and righteousness and all of these attributes are found in the Bible. In Israel, trees are an important part of life and there is even a "New Year for trees" (Tu Bishvat) at the beginning of the Hebrew month of Shevat (corresponding with January or February). When planted trees represent "the miracle of life." By planting trees in Israel, we are continually sowing into the cradle of Christianity and helping the Jewish nation grow. As believers we too are "grafted into" the "Olive Tree" – Israel! Remember the special promises of God to those who help God’s special people and land - Israel. "I will bless them that bless you." - Genesis 12:3.

So how can you help or be a part of this exciting project?

(1) Plant a tree in honour of Israel!

(2) Plant a tree for a new born baby in the family: In fact, there is an Ancient Jewish custom to plant a tree every time a child is born …and then pray over it; "thanking God for the miracle of creation both for the young tree and the new born baby" – both being unique and original unlike anything that was before or will be. Each began with a single seed, concealing a complex potential that miraculously unfolds with each passing day. The roots of this tree will gain hold and spread deep, drawing nourishment from the fertile earth …and so too the child draws nourishment from its own roots: family, heritage and tradition. For the baby boy typically will plant a "cedar tree" and for a baby girl to plant a "cypress" tree. The hope is that the girls will be "hopeful and fragrant like the cypress tree" and the boys will "grow into strong men like a cedar tree." Later in their lives, the branches from the cypress and cedar of a bride and groom are used to make the "chuppah" for their wedding ceremony.

(3) Plant a tree "in celebration of" or "in memory of a loved one": In Israel trees are planted for fallen IDF soldiers killed in battle. In their memory, over 2,000 trees were planted after three Israeli teens were found murdered in 2014. What a lovely gesture and this is why Pray4Zion would like to be a part of this exciting project specifically for our partners who would like to plant a tree/trees "as a memorial in Israel to honour "a loved one" and at the same time keep Israel a vibrant country. "For the pastures of the wilderness are green with grass, the tree bears its fruit; the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength," - Joel 2:22. God said that He would comfort all who mourn and give us gladness instead of mourning!

If you would like to plant a tree for a loved one… in honour of Israel; in celebration of someone or event; the birth of a baby or in loving memory of a loved one etc. The costs vary depending upon the tree, your currency and where it will be most needed in Israel; such as; the Golan Heights, Galilee, near Jerusalem, Haifa or Southern Israel. God’s Word is true! He IS watching to see how the nations are treating His people. God will have mercy on Israel through Gentile believers acting as mediators towards them. This is one of the most amazing revelations ever given to the church – an opportunity to do something that carries the highest priority in the heart of God. Yet, sadly, so few have seen the potential and the rewards of serving God in this manner - as agents of mercy to Israel and the Jewish people! Israel was and still is despised today and a despised nation continually turning away from God BUT nothing ever altered the purpose of God for that nation. The despised element is always a noticeable element in the purpose of God. When the Saviour of the world came, He came of that despised nation; like Israel… He Himself was; "despised and rejected by men," …and there is that despised element; "…things that are despised God has chosen," 1 Corinthians 1:28. Now, more than at any time is the time to support Israel and the Jewish people - the Lord’s Brethren! We are witnessing the nations and people turning their backs on Israel. Thank you once again for your prayers and generous support!
